Where the Jobs Are
November 6, 2009

The unemployment rate rose from 9.8 to 10.2 percent in October being the highest rate since 1983. Although we saw more job loss in our industry we did see some jobs gained in Computer System Designs and Management and technical consulting services which is uplifting. The IT industry will continue to see a tight market but it’s really up to our industry to lead us completely out of this recession.
Check out the video on Matt Ferguson, our CEO of Career Builder, as he shares his preview of today’s jobs report and tells CNBC where the jobs are.

IT Recovery
In a recent survey conducted by CIO Magazine, it concluded that as we move into 2010 CIO’s within organizations plan on increasing IT spending at a rate we have not seen since 2008. The survey that was conducted gave a clear indication that as we move into 2010, IT is going to be a main focus and that 37% of IT leaders plan on increasing spend within their organizations. In addition, the survey also found that small companies rather than larger organizations will be the ones leading the way in IT spending with an average of 43% increasing IT spend. Overall this article shows that the IT world is starting to build back up and as it does it will only increase the number of jobs available for the IT professional.

McBrand Yourself!
October 30, 2009
Everyone and anyone are branding themselves nowadays- literally! Individual people have websites for themselves; branding their name, values, and their strengths. I recently read an article on CNN where they recommended that everyone find the time to brand themselves, to get themselves out there, “so that if someone needs that expertise, they’ll come to you first.”
As a small business, this same principle applies. Many of the best and brightest companies find themselves struggling to make an impact in their industry because they are competing with the big dogs. Not only are they competing for business, they are competing for talent. No one knows who they are. Problem is- they don’t have a multi-million dollar marketing budget.

Did you know that Careerbuilder is an authorized reseller to Facebook? In a recent post of ours we talked about a survey that was conducted by Ethos Business Law in July 2009, saying that social media is being used as a means to enhance relationships with customers, build a company’s brand, as a customer service tool, boost employee morale, and add to the recruitment process.
My question today for you is how much time have you put into learning about how your business can be impacted by Social Media?
